I like systems that don't need me at 2am.
I started out building web apps, React, Node, the usual stack. Somewhere along the way I got more interested in what kept those apps running than in the apps themselves. Scaling, uptime, what happens when something breaks at 2am — that's where I've stayed focused since.
Most of my work now sits at that layer, infrastructure that doesn't fall over and doesn't need babysitting. My AWS Infra project is the clearest example: three isolated environments, a WAF in front of everything, autoscaling that actually scales, encrypted RDS with a replica, and no open SSH ports. The goal is simple, a deploy should be routine, not risky.
I also work full-time as a materials engineer researching corrosion inhibition, and review submissions for the Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering (Elsevier) — so I spend a fair amount of time thinking about failure from a completely different angle.
